Dear Boat Owner, The Covid-19 virus pandemic is upon us. We’re asking for your understanding and patience during these trying times. Many people are staying home, physical distancing, or working from home to stay safe, and many are taking this alone time to work on their boats and get them shined up and ready for the summer to come. After all, what better place to practice Social Distancing than on your boat. We’re trying to stay open for as long as we can. Our non-essential staff are working from home and we’re trying to maintain our excellent customer service and the high quality of boat care products that we have become famous for, but it will be difficult. Some of our suppliers have already advised us that they have closed down which means that we may run into back orders for lack of raw materials and supplies and there may be delays in shipping as well. Some of our dealers are holding back on their orders for fear of the worst and that has resulted in an unusually high demand on our On-Line Orders which is putting an additional strain on the limited staff that has agreed to keep working in support of our customers. We’re doing our best but we need you to understand that some things will be beyond our control for the near future. If you plan to work on your boat and need Aurora Boat Care Products, we encourage you to order them as early as you can as this will increase your chances of getting them, in a timely manner. Hopefully this pandemic will only be a flash in the pan and will soon be over so we can get back to our normal lives. Thank you for your understanding. Yours Sincerely, Richard Kittar CEO Aurora Marine Industries Inc. |
Ron Frerker asked: Do you have a product that will remove all old wax off the hull? That includes wax which might not have been buffed out correctly? The products would be Aurora products like Boat Shine and etc. Answer: For your convenience, I’ve highlighted the hyperlinks. Click on the hyperlink to get more information about the selected product. To remove old wax or polish work in a small section at a time. Wet the gelcoat with water, spray on Boat Clean Plus and scrub with a Marine Power Mitt, then put a bit of Boat Scrub on the Mitt and scrub again, until the gelcoat is clean and shiny. Rinse well and continue onto the next section. If the gelcoat is still dull, oxidized, streaky or faded, the next step is to buff with EZ Buff before re-polishing. Premium Boat Shine is self-polishing and does not need to be buffed. When the haze appears, simply wipe away the haze with a terry towel or cotton cloth. If the haze was allowed to remain too long and it becomes difficult to wipe away, apply some more Premium Boat Shine to the hazed over surface and then wipe it away. The haze indicates that the solvents are evaporating and the Premium Boat Shine is beginning to bond to the gelcoat. The solvents from the fresh application will soften the haze residue so it can be wiped away and you should have a beautiful, durable shine. Thanks for your question, Captain Aurora Richard Kittar
Steven J Pidek Asked: I have a 17′ aluminum boat that sits in a slip. The bottom of the boat is not painted it’s bare aluminum how do I keep zebra mussels from attaching to my aluminum boat. And what products should I use? What should I use on my outboard motor for zebra mussels? Answer: For your convenience, I’ve highlighted the hyperlinks. Click on the hyperlink to get more information about the selected product. Providing that the aluminum is in pristine condition (new condition), wash it well with Boat Clean Plus cleaner /degreaser, rinse well and allow to dry. Apply 4 coats of Alumetron to seal the grain in the aluminum to make the surface smooth, then apply 2 coats of VS721. Zebra mussels can’t stick to VS721, providing that the surface is smooth and has no microscopic areas for marine growth to anchor. Here’s a link to our How To Video showing application on a bare aluminum pontoon boat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzqTJmJ6n8U&t=30s The process is the same. If the aluminum is not in pristine condition, send me pictures and I’ll advise you on how to restore it. It’s also important to keep bio-fouling (slime) from building up as that’s food for higher life forms, like Zebra Mussels and Algae. VS721 will make the bottom of your boat very slick so all you need to do is wipe the bottom clean from time to time, as you see slime starting to attach, and your boat bottom will stay clean all season. The biofouling comes off very easily with a Marine Power Mitt, sponge or brush. The Alumetron / VS721 combination will also improve the performance of you boat. If the factory paint on your outboard motor is in good shape, all you need to do is clean it well with Boat Clean Plus and then apply 2 coats of VS721. You will need about 1 bottle of Boat Clean Plus, 2 bottles of Alumetron, 1 bottle of VS721 and a Marine Power Mitt (recommended) to do your boat. The Alumetron / VS721 combination comes with a 3 year warranty. Thanks for your question, Captain Aurora Richard Kittar
TERRY HUTCHINSON asked: is Stainless Shield ok for Chrome? if not, do you have a product for rust spot prevention on chrome? Answer: For your convenience, I’ve highlighted the hyperlinks. Click on the hyperlink to get more information about the selected product. Both Quick Silver and Stainless Shield work wonderfully on chrome. The protective shiny, silvery finish on stainless steel is chromium oxide which is similar to that on chrome plating, except that the protective methodology is a bit different. Chrome plating is only on the surface whereas the chromium in stainless steel is alloyed with the steel and is right through the metal. Quick Silver is very effective at removing surface rust and re-passivating the chromium oxide surface to help protect against future rusting and Stainless Shield prevents the attack from the environmental causes of rusting, corrosion and pitting. Thanks for your question, Captain Aurora, Richard Kittar
Question: Richard Asked: I just used Sure Step to protect my non-skid. How do I clean the Buffing Wheel? Answer: For your convenience, I’ve highlighted the hyperlinks. Click on the hyperlink to get more information about the selected product. The best way is to operate the Buffing Wheel on the drill and scrape the working edge against a knife edge or other flat piece of stainless steel. You can also purchase a SPUR tool made especially for cleaning buffing wheels. Keep the wheel dedicated for use on Sure Step. Do not use raw steel or aluminum as the cleaning tool as the rust or aluminum oxide will transfer onto the Buffing Wheel. You can also wash the Buffing Wheel in Boat Clean Plus and water, but this will cause the fabric to matt. It can be loosened up a bit by running it against a spur or stiff scrub brush, but the wheel will never operate the same and I would not recommend it.
