Can I Apply Sure Step and VS721 Bottom Coat Over Car Wax?

  Skipper

David Terrell asked:

I plan to take my boat to a car wash to clean. It’s not very dirty, I just want to clean it a bit before I apply the VS721 BOTTOM COAT and SURE STEP. Anyway, it occured to me that I could spray it with the wax they have there and then bring it home for a couple of coats of your product. My question is do you think your product would be able to adhere atop regular car wax?

Answer:
For your convenience, I’ve highlighted the hyperlinks. Click on the hyperlink to get more information about the selected product.

If you put wax or other coatings on your boat, the VS721 and Sure Step will adhere to that, instead of the boat and will only be as durable as the wax that you put underneath. The wax used in car washes are more solvent and water than wax and is only intended to last a day or two. Our polishes and protectors are intended to last all season, or longer. Putting Sure Step over other waxes can negate the pressure sensitive properties and make it very slick, instead of giving you traction.

It is important that you follow the instructions on the product. The Boat Clean Plus and Boat Scrub cleaners are intended to deep clean the surface of your boat (even the pores in the gelcoat) and remove any traces of oxidization, stains or yellowing, etc. When your boat is Aurora Clean then you will get good bonding of the polishes for maximum protection and life. Use these two cleaners even on brand new boats to prep the surface properly. If you follow the instructions, we guarantee the performance of the products we sell.

Thanks for your question.
