Can I wax over Sure Step?

  Skipper

Mark Pyle asked:

Second time trying to get this question answered. Did not see it in the ask the Captain area either. I have a 34 Catamaran. If I use the Sure Step on the Non-skid… will it prevent me or ruin in some fashion the ability to use Wax on the regular decks with the smooth Fiberglass coating? I appreciate the help and I like your products very much.

Answer:

Thank you for being persistent. We have no record of having received your previous email. We get a lot of emails and glitches can happen. We try to respond to all emails as quickly as we can.

We recommend using Sure Step on all horizontal surfaces for safety reasons, especially if there is the possibility that someone will step on that surface. Applying wax overtop of Sure Step serves no purpose, except to make that surface slippery, especially when it’s wet. Sure Step offers superior protection against UV degradation as well as resistance to staining, soiling, bird droppings etc. and of course it’s not slippery.

Sure Step seals the pores in your gelcoat protecting your gelcoat better, whereas wax just sits on the surface and slides around. That’s why it feels greasy.Sure Step is not greasy or slippery. It resists the attachment of dirt, grime, dust and pollution, whereas wax attracts and holds it against the surface making cleaning more frequent and difficult.

Sure Step uses the latest nano technology to give your boat up to 6 months of protection from UV, whereas the UV protection of wax starts to break down after 72 hours and is minimal after 7 to 10 days, requiring weekly waxing to maintain optimum protection.

So, yes you can apply wax over Sure Step, but why would you want to?

Thanks for your question
