Do I need to sand the bottom before applying VS721?

  Skipper

Ernie Huron asked:

When it becomes time to recoat with VS721, do I need to sand first? Or just reapply? I leave the boat in water for 1 or 2 months at a time and don’t like the idea of bottom paint because of the extra weight and rough bottom. I have a Donzi boat coming in.

No sanding is required. Prior to applying VS721 the first time, give the bottom a good cleaning with Boat Scrub. Two coats will last the entire season. It will give you a very slippery surface that should improve the performance of your boat. Depending on where you moor your boat and how often you use it, it is a good idea to wipe any slime off the bottom from time. If you use the boat on a regular basis, slime will not accumulate.

Thanks for your question
