Getting Yellowed Rub Rail White Again

  Skipper

Bryan Crowther asked:

I have 30 year old yellowed rub rail that is in otherwise perfect condition, which one of your products would be best for this.

Answer:

For your convenience, I’ve highlighted the hyperlinks. Click on the hyperlink to get more information about the selected product.

Boat owners have had great success using Boat Scrub, or in more severe cases a 50/50 solution of Boat Scrub and Boat Clean Plus. If the discoloration is superficial, these products will remove the yellowing and leave your rub rail white again. If the damage has penetrated deep into the rub rail then nothing will restore the whiteness and you will either have to replace the rub rail or live with the discoloration.

Do not use industrial solvents like acetone or toluene. They will not work any better than the above, but will soften and damage the rub rail, making it gooey and sticky and it will turn yellow again in a short time.

Thanks for your question.
