How much Green Genie is required to clean a 23ft Chaparral?

  Skipper

Dolores Kriley asked:

We have a Chaparral SSI 230. (23 ft) We want to purchase the Green Genie product we saw in your u tube video to take the algae off the bottom. I didn’t see anywhere how much we would be needing. Could you please e-mail me back and let me know.

Answer:

For your convenience, I’ve highlighted the hyperlinks. Click on the hyperlink to get more information about the selected product.

Estimating the required quantity for cleaners like this is difficult because it depends on so many variables; such as the type of growth (there are over 10,000 species of algae, plus, some deposit calcium and other hard water minerals on the fiberglass making it very difficult to remove), how old or fresh the growth is, if you sealed and protected your boat bottom or not (algae will penetrate and grow into the pores of unsealed gelcoat), how heavy or light the growth is, etc.

For your sized boat, one bottle should be enough if the growth is light, without hard water minerals and not too old. Otherwise you may need 2 to 3 bottles. It’s probably better to order a bit more than run out. Green Genie has a shelf life of 3 years so if you have some left over, you can use it next year.

Going forward, I suggest that you seal and protect your boat bottom with VS721. It will make clean up much easier in future and if you can wipe the slime off the bottom from time to time during the summer, your boat bottom will stay clean all season long. It will also seal the bottom against osmosis blisters, which is pretty cheap insurance. Other benefits are fuel saving and better performance. If you order VS721, also order Boat Scrub to deep clean and prep the surface for best results. Many boat owners tell us that they save enough in fuel to more than pay for the VS721.

Thanks for your question,
