Hi Greg,

Alumetron is water based and bonds chemically to raw aluminum. You need to clean and remove all traces of wax, silicone, grease, oil and other pollutants that may be present in metal polishes and rubbing compounds, before applying Alumetron.

Recommended Procedure:

How to protect an aluminum hull that has been buffed with metal polish or rubbing compound?

• 1. Remove all traces of wax, silicone, grease, oil and other pollutants and residue from the metal polish or rubbing compound with an appropriate cleaner recommended by the polish manufacturer.

• 2. Wash it well with Boat Clean Plus to remove any residue left from the cleaner degreaser.

• 3. Apply Alumetron above and below the waterline with a lint free cotton cloth, wiping with the grain in long, smooth, wet on wet, overlapping strokes.

• 4. Allow to dry.

• 5. By the time you finished one coat, the pontoon should be dry enough for the next. You need 4 thin coats for optimum results.

• 6. Allow to fully cure, following the directions on the bottle, before launching the boat or applying VS721.

Application of VS721 is recommended to increase durability and clean ability. It’s recommended for use above and below the waterline. Use of VS721 will increase the warranty of Alumetron from 3 years to 5 years. It also reduces the attachment of marine fouling and makes clean up easier, Zebra mussels can’t stick to it and green slime can be removed with a sponge from time to time so that the bottom will be clean at the end of the season. VS721 also reduces drag to improve performance and reduce fuel consumption.
