Question:

Hi – I have a 2009 scorpion rib with White hypalon tubes. I have just removed the overall cover to discover that there is an

area of deep rooted mold/ mildew stain that look as though they have gone through they have penetrated into the Hypalon fabric.

Can you suggest what actions I can take and whether any of your products are suitable.

If the mold and mildew stains are still superficial, Speed Clean will remove the stains. If they have penetrated the fabric, I’m afraid that they are indelible.

I suggest trying scrubbing the stains with Speed Clean and a Marine Power Mitt to try to remove as much as possible and then leave the boat in the sun for a few weeks to see if the sun will bleach the rest of the stain.

If you are successful then immediately protect the tube with Poly Guard and keep it protected by cleaning and re-applying the Poly Guard every 3 to 4 months.

This will protect mold and mildew stains from penetrating in the future.

If the stains remain, your options are limited:

1. You can live with the stains
2. You can try to remove the stains with chlorine bleach, but this will impact the integrity of the fabric and limit the life of the tube. The tube will become porous and start to loose air
3. You can replace the tube.
