How to protect new pontoons

  Skipper

Richard Hughes asked:

Boat is brand new, can i start with the protection once i get the boat. Pontoons should be clean right?

Answer:

For your convenience, I’ve highlighted the hyperlinks. Click on the hyperlink to get more information about the selected product.

Your pontoons must be clean dry and free from oil, grease and pollutants. During the manufacturing process, the aluminum is coated with oil and during fabrication with welders smut, plus pollutants that may be present during the delivery process.

The procedure is to wash the pontoons well with Boat Clean Plus and a Marine Power Mitt. Rinse well and allow to dry thoroughly before applying the Alumetron. If there are any streaks or white spots from salt on the road during transport, they can be buffed with Alumabuff and a Marine Power Mitt or if the staining is heavier with Alumabuff and a Linear Buffer. When buffing, be sure to buff horizontally with the grain, never against the grain.

After the Alumetron has cured, you can apply VS721 to the pontoon to reduce marine fouling and add scuff resistance and durability to the top of the pontoon. This will also increase the warranty.

You can use the following Pontoon Calculator App to determine the square footage of your pontoons and the amount of product that you will require: https://www.auroramarine.com/calculator/pontoons/pontoons.html
