Removing and Preventing Mold and Mildew

  Skipper

Philip Eslinger asked:

All of your products are targeted for a boat’s exterior. Have you ever thought about the interior. I could use a good mildew/mold removal and preventative cleaner.

Answer:

For your convenience, I’ve highlighted the hyperlinks. Click on the hyperlink to get more information about the selected product.

Several of our products are excellent for the interior as well as the exterior. Since similar problems can occur on the inside as well as the outside of the boat and the substrates are similar we do not package the same product for in and out. The same products can be used in both areas

If you have a mildew problem I suggest you try Aurora Boat Clean Plus and Boat Scrub depending on whether you are trying to clean soft or hard surfaces. If you have permanent stains there is nothing that will remove them without damaging the substrate. Vinyl Guard will help prevent migration of mildew stain into vinyl and Premium Boat Shine will help prevent staining of fiberglass. There are products that claim to prevent mold staining of soft surfaces but they are water soluble and with moisture and water in and around boats do not work for very long so we do not recommend them as you would have to spray down your boat every few days.

The best preventative measure is to eliminate the source of the mildew and mold. Keeping the affected area clean, dry and with good air circulation will help immensely and will probably eliminate the problem.

Thanks for your question,

Captain Aurora
