Q: will the cleaning/ prep process, for applying Sure Step, remove the polish from the hull? Also, the hull is a painted (epoxy) surface.

The run off from Boat Clean Plus and Boat Scrub will not affect or damage the polish on the hull, nor will it affect marine life as both products are environment friendly. Rinse the hull with fresh water to remove any residue. These two cleaners will insure that your decks are clean and bright before sealing them with Sure Step. This is important so that you don’t seal in any dirt and stains and that’s why they’re included in the Sure Step Deck Protect Kit.

When Sure Step dries and cures, it becomes inert and is very durable. The run off from regular washing or rinsing clean will not streak or damage your polished hull. I realize that this is a concern and problem with competitive products but Sure Step is proven not to have these undesirable side effects.

Epoxy is an unusual paint for hulls, unless you are referring to the barrier coat under your anti-fouling paint. Epoxies deteriorate and break down from UV radiation from the sun and must be protected with an opaque paint. Most high quality hull paints are two part polyurethanes. Epoxy barrier coats, below the waterline, are over-painted with opaque anti-fouling paint. If you hull is painted with polyurethane, you can use Kwik Shine to clean, shine and protect the painted surface.

You can use you pressure washer providing you keep the pressure below 2,000 psi. 1,500 psi is better and use a fan or wide angel spray and keep the nozzle at least 18 inches from the surface. High psi pressure can actually lift and remove the gelcoat or paint from the surface so be careful.
